Antiguos notarios / An Old Notary

Estaba estudiando en la biblioteca y un amigo mío que estudia Derecho me enseñó un texto que decía lo siguiente:

En algunos países europeos, durante la Edad Media, cuando se hacía un pacto de transmisión de bienes, era necesario la presencia de un testigo.
Dicho testigo debía vivir muchos años para garantizar la estabilidad del pacto. Para ello se escogía un niño.
Y para que el niño no olvidara nunca dicho contrato, se le daba una fuerte paliza. Así, siempre recordaría la paliza y el trato del que fue testigo.

¿Por qué queremos a un notario si tenemos a un niño? Es una manera original (y muy ilegal) de firmar tratos.

I was studying in the library when a friend showed me this text. He is studying Laws. The text was this:

In some european countries, during the Medium Age, when a contratc was done, a witness was needed.
This witness had to live many years. They choose a child.
But the child was very young, and he could forget the contract. To avoid this problem, his father hit him very hard many times.
With this violent act, the child would never forget the hits (and the contract in which he was the witness).

Why we want a notary if we have a kid? An originial (and very illegal) way of making a deal.
